Java Edition is the original version of Minecraft, available only on Windows and macOS. It has a large and established modding community with lots of high-quality free options. It does not have interoperability with Bedrock Edition; a mod from one cannot be loaded on the other.

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition
Bedrock Edition (sometimes referred to as Console Edition or Pocket Edition) is the newer version of Minecraft which runs on a wider variety of devices including Windows, phones and consoles. It has more limited modding options, with more reliance on paid content in the Minecraft Marketplace. Free content from outside of the Marketplace also exists, but is limited and can be difficult or impossible to load on certain devices.

These texture packs are freely available online, and can be easily imported in-game on Windows, iOS, and iPadOS. However they can be more difficult or outright impossible to load on certain devices, particularly Android and Consoles.
